The One, the only one?

The One

One of the earliest fragrances bought on a whim, that has over the years, become one of my true fragrance loves is the One Eau De Parfum, a designer fragrance by Dolce & Gabbana. Its delightfully pleasant scent DNA is uniquely intoxicating and pulls people in towards you rather than projecting outwards. It gets a lot of love and respect from the fragrance community and rightfully so. It was the first fragrance that got me a you smell amazing compliment and perhaps, also got me into the frag game.

The One is very well blended and is a boozy, fruity, sweet, spicy masculine scent. It opens with zesty grapefruit, very fresh and green basil and coriander giving away to hints of lively ginger, orange blossom and cardamom sweetness in the mid notes. It settles rather quickly to its base notes – a sensation of rich tobacco and cedar and an alluring amber accord. I think it’s the warm vibe in it, the warm but dry sweetness of amber and the masculine yet soft tobacco, that makes it really tough to resist.

The One does become a skin scent very quickly (in 2-3 hours) but the skin scent lasts an astonishing amount of time on my skin, unlike most other scents that gradually die down soon after it stops projecting. Once it becomes close to the skin, one needs to be really close to be able to get whiffs of it from you. But it’s very inviting and as I said, draws people in towards you and believe me, it’s hard to not keep smelling it once you get a whiff of it. People who have let go of their olfactory sensitivity often complain that it does not have the sillage that you would normally expect from a designer fragrance nor does it classify as a projection beast. I don’t think this scent wants to be one. Its smoothness and subtlety are its selling point and amplify the classic gentleman in you.

The One is modern yet timeless, soft yet masculine and a fragrance I can bet most women would approve of. It’s much more in line for men who are closer to or are above 30 and perhaps not for the guy looking to be fresh, bright or loud. I find it perfect for intimate dates because of how alluring it is but I also enjoy wearing it for my own pleasure. It’s versatile enough for work as well as casual meetups and gatherings and I don’t think it can offend a single soul, ever. I’m glad I started my fragrance journey with it as it helped me develop my nose and having owned a few fragrances over the last couple of years, I can safely say, this needs to be a staple in every men’s fragrance collection. It is the one for dates, the one for the gentleman, and the one for life.
